I’ve written a new book of short stories. Called ‘Everyone’s Just So So Special’, it’s about history, and memory, and the way we try to make sense of them. It’s also about camel marriages. And killer angels. People developing fetishes for Jehovah’s Witnesses, and conjuring tricks that cause worldwide plague.

So it’s not your typical book about history.

Horror stories and funny stories, and stories that are just plain weird. From the writer who brought you Tiny Deaths, winner of the World Fantasy Award. And Love Songs for the Shy and Cynical, winner of the Shirley Jackson Award, the Edge Hill Readers Prize, and the British Fantasy Award. Oh, and he brought back the Daleks too. Well, one of them. It fought Christopher Eccleston. You remember, the weepy Dalek? Yes, I wrote that.

“The history of the world. All of it. Its wars, its empires. Each and every one of its decline-and-falls. It’s really terribly simple. It’s the story of a bunch of mediocrities who are trying to look special. And it is my duty, it is my pleasure, to expose the lot of them.”

To celebrate the publication of So So, I decided to write another one hundred stories.

There are one hundred special leatherbound editions to be released. Each one of them will contain an utterly unique story, featuring the name of the book’s owner, and that namesake’s fictional place in history. Partially handwritten by me. And to prove they’re all different – that I really am that mad – I shall post the stories online here, all one hundred of them, every few days, from August 1st until I finish. (I’m guessing somewhere around Christmas. …I hope.)

At the time of writing, over ninety of these books are sold. But if you would like to be one of those people who gives me a sleepless night trying to come up with Story Stuff, the last copies are available on the Big Finish website.

(…Phew. Now I’m off into town, to write another story. Think of me. And gloat.)
